Spicy Margaritas... What's All The Hype About?

So, why are spicy margarita's so popular?

Spicy margaritas have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. This unique twist on the classic margarita adds a fiery kick to the already refreshing and delicious cocktail, creating a bold and exciting flavor that is perfect for those who love a little spice in their life.

What's a spicy margarita made of?

One of the key components of a spicy margarita is the use of chili peppers. There are many different types of chili peppers that can be used, from mild jalapeños to fiery habaneros. The type of pepper used will determine the level of heat in the drink, so it's important to choose one that matches your personal taste preferences. Try Mixly's grapefruit jalapeño flavor for a subtly-spicy and refreshing pepper flavor. Or, shake Mixly's pineapple basil lime flavor with a habanero pepper (or two) and some mezcal for a smoking hot, tropical margarita!

In addition to the chili pepper, a spicy margarita typically includes tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. These ingredients work together to create a well-balanced cocktail that is both tangy and spicy. For some extra heat, swap out the orange liqueur for a spicy alternative - we love Ancho Reyes Verde Chile Poblano Liqueur. Some recipes also include agave nectar, honey or simple syrup to add a touch of sweetness to counteract the heat.

To make a spicy margarita, simply muddle the chili pepper in the bottom of a shaker, add the tequila (or mezcal), lime juice, orange liqueur, and any additional sweetener, and shake with ice until well combined. Then, strain the mixture into a glass over ice and garnish with a slice of lime and a chili pepper if desired. Don't want to go through the hassle of making a margarita from scratch? Just mix 2 parts Mixly (here are our favorite tequila mixers), to 0.5 parts liqueur, to 1 part tequila (or mezcal).

Here's how to customize your spicy margarita:

One of the great things about spicy margaritas is that they can be customized to suit individual tastes. If you prefer a milder drink, simply use a milder pepper or reduce the amount of chili used. On the other hand, if you love the heat, feel free to use a spicier pepper or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra kick. Hot and smoky are a perfect match - try swapping out your tequila for a mezcal for smoky take on a spicy classic.

Overall, spicy margaritas are a fun and unique twist on a classic cocktail that are sure to impress your friends and family. Whether you enjoy them on a hot summer day or as a warming drink during the colder months, these spicy drinks are sure to add a little excitement to any occasion.

Cheers,

Stuart
